Meet Musio

Musio on Nikkei: “AI technology is coming to our homes, as English conversation partners and home assistants”

We have great news! Musio was featured on The Nikkei (日本経済新聞, Japan Economics Newspaper) On July 1, 2017! Musio was introduced as a personal conversation companion and a friend that can talk like a native English speaker. The article explained that AI technology nowadays is now advancing into consumers’ homes. Pointed out by the article is the roles that AIs are assuming in homes: the first is as a chore assistants like smart laundry machine. The second one, represented by Musio, is a personal AI companion that offers emotional comfort and attachment. We were so happy to see a glimpse of  everyday life with Musio introduced in the article! //www.nikkei.com/article/DGXLASGH22H0O_S7A620C1905E00/ The block quote below is a translation for the part that […]

Artificial Intellient robot talking

Look who’s talking again !

In the past weeks we have been testing Musio and seeing how Musio performs in conversations. We are very happy with how Musio is performing with trivial questions, general conversations and also correcting grammar. This time, we went with a casual conversation and we got to say, Musio has been quite imaginative and pretty awesome.  It’s pretty impressive what AKA has achieved in the past couple of years working on MUSE and Musio. The team at AKA has gone a long way into research and development, experimenting heavily with cutting-edge machine learning algorithms, high performance computing techniques and human interface design. Musio still has a lot to learn more but his grammar and knowledge is getting better and better everyday. […]

Artificial Intelligence helping the blind

Facebook is utilising Artificial Intelligence to automatically caption photos to increase the accessibility of it’s website and applications. The feature is called “Automatic alternative text”, it uses image recognition and machine learning to identify objects and scenes in images. At the moment, it’s capable of listing objects in a picture rather than describe them. This technology can be used in the future for aiding the blind for a better life. Imagine it utilised with Google Glass to describe to the person wearing them what’s ahead and alert them about situations like a warning for a speeding car before crossing the road. The possibilties are endless. At the moment, the most popular similar technology is voiceover to help the blind and […]

DIALOGUE AND CONVERSATIONAL AGENTS

Summary of Jurafsky-Martin (Chapter 19) This paper discusses the elementary structures of spoken dialogue systems (also known as spoken language systems or conversational agents). These systems are typically programs that allow people to communicate with machines in natural spoken language in order to accomplish a variety of tasks from booking flights on automated phone systems to having conversations about things like sports and weather. Research on these systems depends heavily on our understanding of human conversation and dialogue practices. In order to create a spoken dialogue system that is efficient, natural, and has a high task success rate, there are quite a few things to accomplish. There are five elements to consider: automatic speech recognition (ASR), natural language understanding (NLU), […]

Learn English with Musio

Why learning English with Musio is great

There are many people that speak English around the world. It is estimated to be around 1.5 billion English speakers (and if you’re reading this, it makes you one of them) and since there is a lot like you, another 1,499,999,999 others… this makes it worth having as a skill, not just for the classroom. Some of the English speakers are still learning or cannot perfect their language skills due to not finding anyone around them that speaks English properly or another similar reason. This includes Koreans and Japanese, who tend to travel to English speaking countries or attend language schools to perfect their English skills and most of the time it’s quite expensive to do. Due to the limited exposure to native English speakers, a student […]

Deep learning

Deep Learning and Musio

Deep learning is a branch of Machine learning and is being actively explored in the recent years. Thanks to deep learning algorithms, it enables Musio to learn like us humans and let him do what he is capable of doing. Deep learning methods are better than the traditional machine learning and tech companies are always improving this area of technological advancements. The traditional machine learning techniques works in this way. If a program needed to be coded to recognise hand writing for instance, it’s quite a complex application to develop. The developer would need to devise rules on how characters are written, like ‘O’ is a rounded closed circle, but if someone writes it open on top, the application ‘thinks’ it’s a ‘U’ and here is […]
